首先，我代表广州大学的全体师生，向参加2011年海外华裔青少年“寻根中国、相约广东”夏令营活动的青少年朋友们和老师们表示的热烈欢迎。

First of all，Please allow me, on behalf of all the teachers and students of Guangzhou University, to warmly welcome the overseas Chinese teachers and youth who joined in the Root-seeking Summer Camp.

欢迎你们来到中国改革开放的窗口城市广州，来到环境优美的广州大学城和我们广州大学。We welcome you toGuangzhou, an opening-up and reform showcase city and to the beautiful higher education mega center andGuangzhouUniversity.

中华民族历来有着浓厚的故乡故土观念，认祖归宗是中华儿女重要的文化品格。The Chinese nation has strong sense of the homeland emotion, and recognizing ancestry is the important cultural character of Chinese people.

同世界其他国家的寻根热相比，生活在全球各地的中华儿女的寻根热情更高、寻根历史更早。Compared to the Root-seeking craze of the other countries, the enthusiasm of Chinese people living around the world to seek the root is much higher and earlier.

海外中华儿女到中国寻根，说明大家对祖籍国有强烈的亲近感，都认识到自己血管中涌动的是中华的血脉，都愿意传承和发扬历经数千年形成的中华文化。The overseas Chinese go back toChinato recognize the ancestry, indicating that they have a strong sense of intimacy to the native state, realize their own blood is surging inChina's blood, and are willing to carry forward the thousands of years of traditional Chinese culture.

所以，虽然我们生长在不同的国度，在生活、文化等方面也有着不同的差异，但我们都是龙的传人，都是炎黄子孙，我们的根是同的，我们的心是通的。So, though we grew up in different countries and we have difference in the daily life and culture, we are all the descendants of the Chinese people, we are all the children of the Yellow Emperor. Our roots are the same. Our hearts are connected.

这次“寻根中国、相约广东”夏令营活动，为我们架起了沟通联系的桥梁。The Root-seeking Summer Camp will set up a bridge for communication and connection between us.

广州是岭南文化的发源地，你们在这里肯定能够得到很大的收获。Guangzhouis the birthplace of the Lingnan culture, where you can have a great harvest.

夏令营期间，大家可以到附近的岭南印象园走走看看，那里富有特色的街巷、宗祠、民居和店铺，还可以看木偶、听粤剧、尝小吃等，这些文化元素都充分展现了岭南传统文化的精华。During the summer camp, we can go to take a look at the Lingnan impression park, where there are distinctive streets, temples, houses and shops, you can also watch the puppet show, listen to the Cantonese opera, taste the specialties, and these cultural elements have fully demonstrated the traditional Lingnan culture.

来到广州，大家最明显的感受就是这里的许多人说着一口不同于北京普通话的粤语，俗称“白话”，其实这也是中华文化的丰富多彩在语言方面的反映。InGuangzhou, the most obvious feeling is that the language most of people speak is different from Mandarin, commonly known as "Cantonese", in fact, this is rich and colorful Chinese culture reflected in language.

从历史上看，远涉重洋、定居海外的华人许多都是广东人。Historically, most of the people who are across the oceans and settle in the overseas are Cantonese.

因此，无论同学们的父母祖辈是讲粤语、潮汕话，还是客家话，大家都有可能在这里找到自己的“根”。Therefore, whether the parents of students speak Cantonese, language of Chaozhou-Shantou region or Hakkanese, we are likely to find our "roots."

为了帮助大家在有限的时间里更深入一点了解中华文化，广州大学的老师们还为大家准备了许多文化体验活动，比如：武术、剪纸、茶艺、书法、唱中国歌曲、制作中国结、汉语口语等。In order to help you to understand deeper Chinese culture in the limited time, teachers from Guangzhou University have prepared a number of cultural experience activities for you, such as the martial class, the paper-cutting class, the tea art class, the calligraphy, the Chinese song, making the Chinese knot and the oral Chinese.

在接下来的游览参观活动中，大家还可以到广州许多地方去看看，多了解广州悠久的历史文化，还可以透过广州多看一下中国改革开放的发展现状。During the next tour visits, we can also go to many places to look aroundGuangzhou, to learn more about the ancientGuangzhouhistory and culture, and to experience the developing status of the reform and opening up throughGuangzhou’s development.

夏令营时间很短暂，在此期间希望青少年朋友们积极参加各种学习参观和文化交流活动，仔细观察，积极思考，广交朋友，通过夏令营活动开阔视野，加深对中华文化的了解，并从中华民族的历史和文化宝库中汲取精神营养，成为中华文化的热烈传播者。The summer camp time is short, during this time I hope you can actively participate in various cultural activities. Please take a careful observation and positive thinking, make more friends, absorb the spiritual nourishment from Chinese history and culture and become the enthusiastic communicators of Chinese culture.

也希望同学们记住自己的“根”在中国，日后能刻苦学习，奋发成才，成为中西文化交流的使者，为世界人类文明与进步作出贡献。And we also need students to remember your "roots" are inChina. We hope you study hard in the future, strive to be talent, become the envoys of the exchange of Chinese and western culture, and contribute to human civilization.
