President Xi Jinping has encouraged overseas students at Peking University to garner a deeper understanding of China as it is, calling on them to share their thoughts and experiences with more people and to proactively promote exchanges between peoples of different nations.

Xi's remarks came as he wrote back on Monday to 45 representatives of overseas students from 32 countries who are studying at Peking University.The reply letter from Xi has drawn a warm response from the overseas students at Guangzhou University , many of whom said it gave them a great boost.

Zhu Chu Yi Jasmine, an Italian international student who has been studying Chinese martial arts since the age of 7, said: "I am very happy that I can understand and learn Chinese culture, and I am more fortunate that I have the opportunity to come to China to study.
